SERVICES All
are welcome to attend our services.
Our
Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat (welcoming the Sabbath) services run about
one hour. We use the Gates of Prayer prayerbook. Most prayers are
in English, however, some prayers are recited in Hebrew (Va'avta,
Avot v'Imahot, Torah service). This service is attended by most congregants
and includes Torah reading and sermon as well.
Torah study is on Parashat Ha-Shavua (weekly Torah portion). A focal point is chosen by Rabbi Cohen and studied in depth using a variety of resources. The leader of the Torah is either Rabbi Cohen or a volunteer, who signs up. Most of the liturgy on Saturday morning in Hebrew, although some prayers are read in English. Saturday morning services feature a brief D'var Tefilah (investigation/comment on one of the prayers in the service). It is helpful to understand the importance and the historical/spiritual meaning of each prayer in the morning services. We hope that our renewed Shabbat mornings will serve as great occasions for our community to share prayer, learning, and fellowship on the most joyous day of the week when we are here to BE and not to DO. Torah Study begins at 9:00 a.m with a service following at 10:15 a.m.
